It appears to be a Roman man plowing his field with 2 horses and a baby is laying on the ground in front. Names on print are H. Hardy, PINX and C. Cousen, SCULP. As for photographic reproductions, I am not aware of the real start, but certainly by the 1880s there were quite a number of instances of such reproductions being used.Chris Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03095758274368520536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-55355214849971063432015-11-09T16:59:50.273-05:002015-11-09T16:59:50.273-05:00Fascinating information. Does anyone know when book publishers in the U.S. started illustrating books with photographic reproduction technologies as opposed to engravings?Hugh Ryanhttps://www.facebook.com/hugh.ryan.9noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-90624816311944233642012-04-25T16:31:15.447-04:002012-04-25T16:31:15.447-04:00Hi, I have 2 of what have been identified as origi...Hi, I have 2 of what have been identified as original metal etchings done by R. Earlom after Claude Lorrain. They have the indented imprints(borders) from the print plate. Both are numbered, one is No. 200 and is in the Liber Veritatis (Book of Truth) Colors are amazing. One also has a plate number. One published in 1777 and one in 1810. Where would I need to take these to be looked at.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-24509784103320641942012-02-04T10:13:19.148-05:002012-02-04T10:13:19.148-05:00I have 47 orginal copies of picturesque america st...I have 47 orginal copies of picturesque america starting with the first one dating 1872 with all art work included I was wondering what the best forum to sell these would beAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-55393518301752487442012-01-19T12:15:10.858-05:002012-01-19T12:15:10.858-05:00A steel engraving is really the same thing as a &q...A steel engraving is really the same thing as a "normal" black & white print. Normal b&w prints were made with all sorts of processes, steel engravings being one of them. What is really important is not the process, but whether the prints are "originals" or "reproductions." I discuss that issue elsewhere in this blog.Chris Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03095758274368520536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-213641714232249792012-01-19T05:08:18.032-05:002012-01-19T05:08:18.032-05:00How will I know the difference between a normal bl...How will I know the difference between a normal black and white print and a steel engraved print?
