The Civil War is taught differently here, downplaying slavery as much as possible. They stress "states rights" as the hot button issue for the war. Jackson Lee King Day was celebrated here up until the early 2000's until it has only now become acceptable to actually honor Dr. Martin Luther King in his own right. Jackson Lee Day has been moved up on the calendar and is still celebrated. (Referring to Stonewall Jackson and Gen. Robert E. Lee) It is a profoundly sad aura that lingers for the proud and defeated Confederate states.Jay Poyntenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-6391474379690506272011-04-13T01:28:27.761-04:002011-04-13T01:28:27.761-04:00While I agree ending slavery was not the only caus...While I agree ending slavery was not the only cause for the war, it clearly was a cause for the war. Would the secession have occoured if slavery weren't the issue? Would the war have started without the secession? Therefor because of slavery the south seceded causing the north to attempt to "save the union." So yes, slavery was a reason for the civil war.Atlanta Roofinghttp://www.yelp.com/biz/atlanta-roofing-resources-atlantanoreply@blogger.com
