I live in the state of North Carolina and we were seperated from South Carolina by the British crown. West Virginia should have choose another name to distinguish it from Virginia. The Dakota Territory should have done the same thing---since we already had North and South Carolina. They should have picked names that were unique to the rest of our states. The southern half should have been Dakota and the northern half could have been Pembina, Jefferson, Lincoln, or even Huron. Upper Dakota and Lower Dakota or even East Dakota and West Dakota would have been more unique than North and South Dakota. The people that named most of our states had no imagination. The same with Washington state and New Mexico. We already had our nations capital Washington, DC and the country of Mexico to our south. People always confuse these states with each other! Oh well, I guess we are stuck with these boring names!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16852390015728736514noreply@blogger.com
