But it really takes someone who knows prints to tell for any particular image.Chris Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03095758274368520536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-23321920260351965392015-06-08T14:11:03.894-04:002015-06-08T14:11:03.894-04:00where do you take a print to see if it is a copy o...where do you take a print to see if it is a copy or not. I do not know much about these prints. I just know that mine does not have any numbers other than an address in the lower right hand corner. Are the words on the print significant at all? Yours is almost definitely a reproduction. First, there are very, very few originals and lots of reproductions. Secondly, that number does not appear on the original. Still, it never hurts to have it checked out, but I would be very surprised if it proved to be an original.Chris Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03095758274368520536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-13160075949594157012012-05-29T16:42:35.523-04:002012-05-29T16:42:35.523-04:00I have the same numbered 1019 at bottom. I'm thinking of getting an expert's opinion since other characteristics appear to check out (ie print size, stone lith, thick paper) Thanks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-9813981181340512332012-05-11T22:44:02.301-04:002012-05-11T22:44:02.301-04:00The odds are very strong that this is a reproducti...The odds are very strong that this is a reproduction. As noted in the blog above, the original of this print is very, very rare and the reproduction relatively common.

The first thing to do is to check the size, to see if that matches, but even if it does, this is still probably a reproduction as the Andres is full size and hand colored.

The only difference is that the reproduction is a collotype and the original a stone lithograph. You need either a good eye and a 10X magnifier to tell the difference, or to show it to an expert.

I doubt simply comparing yours to an original would tell you what you have, as the reproductions is a photographic copy and so looks exactly the same.Chris Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03095758274368520536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4910641775580983726.post-89817051364039035282012-05-11T17:56:25.373-04:002012-05-11T17:56:25.373-04:00Gentlemen:

It is hand colored and has a number 1019 in the lower margin below the print. How can I tell if it's original or a reproduction. Please email me at garynmiller@prodigy.net

Who has an original of the print that I can view for comparison.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Gary N.
